From the pen of one of the authors of The Prawn Cocktail Years hbk £25, here is a collection of recipes distilled from his column in The Independent.  Hopkinson writes very engagingly about food, and his approach to the act of cooking is a no-nonsense one.  I never bought the paper, so never read the column, but there must have been some unusual leftovers when he’d finished deciding what to put in this book, if what was selected is anything to go by - Genoese Tripe Soup or Anguille Au Vert, Madam?

Let me reassure you, however, that there are lots of far less self-consciously eccentric delights herein - his recipe for Simple Almond Tart has never failed me, and for once, when you read something described as ‘simple’, the description is accurate.  The instructions are very clear, and the photographs decorative without being intimidating. - review by Dan Fenton
