Talking and writing about colour is difficult, and especially so in the garden where it is fugitive and seldom straightforward.  It is, however, one of the most powerful means available to the gardener for self-expression, and it to the credit of Sandra and Nori Pope that they do so in such a clear and simple way.

Moving through the spectrum, they discuss the psychological, scientific and cultural connotations without being at all pretentious.
