Dunhuang: Caves Of The Singing Sands: Buddhist Art From The Silk RoadEditionsReviewHard to exaggerate just how wonderful this publication is. The design is to the highest standards: endpapers, layout, paper, colour reproduction… Vol 1 contains superb interior shots of the cave paintings and sculptures themselves, as well as exterior views showing where the caves are situated in the landscape. The text in vol 2 is accompanied by marginal black & white miniatures of the colour images in vol 1, so that it is quite clear what relates to what. The information is excellent, and there are useful appendices. Few contemporary books are as fine as this. - review by Johnny de Falbe |
