He may seem impossibly prolific… and the margins may get wider with each new book, but Parker still writes sterling prose.  This title is not a Spenser thriller, but the third of the Jesse Stone novels.  Stone, divorced, alcoholic, once a hotshot LA cop, is the Chief of Police in a peaceful New England town.

As he struggles to put his messy life in order, he also sets about solving the murder of a teenaged girl.  Parker’s skilful dialogue, characterisation and plotting make this more than just a substitute until the next Spenser! - review by Karen Wadman
