The Chronycle: The Letters Of Charles Rennie Mackintosh To Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, 1927Editions
ReviewIn 1927 the Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh wrote a series of letters to his wife, the artist Margaret Macdonald. These he dubbed “The Chronycle”. The letters are published here for the first time, in a fully annotated edition, edited by the leading Mackintosh scholar, Pamela Robertson, Senior Curator at Glasgow University’s Hunterian Art Gallery. The letters provide moving insight into the Mackintoshes’ loving relationship and their final years together. They also give rare information about Mackintosh’s artistic process and his ambitions as an outstanding watercolour painter. This is a beautiful book. - review by Stewart Grimshaw |
