Orchids represent one of the largest families of flowering plants with over 25,000 species occurring naturally and over 100,000 cultivated hybrids.  They range in size from the microscopic to a Borneo giant which can weigh more than half a ton and measure 40 feet in circumference, growing as an epiphyte high above the ground on rain forest trees.
