Review
In 1976, fourteen writers, such as Isaiah Berlin, Patrick Leigh Fermor, Malcolm Muggeridge and Max Egremont, collaborated to celebrate their late friend Auberon Herbert, English landed gentleman and wartime officer in the Polish Army. He was a twentieth-century Don Quixote, whose appetite for life, gentleness and erudition combined with an eccentricity and volubility that made him appear to have leapt enthusiastically from the pages of Anthony Powell's Dance to the Music of Time. In this curious and unique little book of 80 pages, all the contributors write as if animated by the spirit and the essential goodness of the extraordinary man they loved. - review by John Wyse Jackson (Seán)
