River Of DarknessEditionsReview
The period details are painstakingly but unobtrusively recreated, the plot is truly surprising, and the tension is maintained throughout the book. An imaginative feat which is both chilling and entertaining. The world Airth describes is darker and more threatening than that of Agatha Christie (who was beginning her career at the time when this novel is set), but like Christie at her best, no detail is wasted, and there are no loose ends. - review by Dan Fenton |
