On The Missionary TrailEditionsReviewThis book is an account of an 8-year journey undertaken in 1821 by Englishmen, representatives of the London Missionary Society. Their brief was to check on the Society’s remote outposts which, for the most part, had been cut off for the years of the Napoleonic Wars. I expected this to be a fascinating book: it is an excellent idea, and the author has clearly done his work. But he gets sidetracked into redundant gobbets of historical and geographical information, so that the story loses focus. - review by Johnny de Falbe |
