All Too Human: A Political EducationEditions
ReviewFor anyone who read and enjoyed 'Primary Colours' (NB apologies to all visitors from America, but that's our spelling of the title and we're sticking to it), this is a fascinating glimpse of life with the Clinton campaign, and then in the Clinton Whitehouse. The author was a keen young Democrat who was bewitched by Clinton's apparent passion and compassion; he thus decided to throw in his lot with Clinton rather than potential rival Mario Cuomo. Not long afterwards he finds himself with an important job in the Administration - and then things really start to get complicated. You must choose what you want to believe of this - it is a political memoir, after all. But it's well written and, at the very least, offers a portrait of the President and of modern power that must give even die-hard Clinton supporters some pause… There are some superb vignettes, and the moment when Hillary hugs the author and says, "I love you, George Stephanopoulos" will make you double up with either laughter or nausea. - review by Dan Fenton |
