Asta's BookEditionsReviewMy former colleague Perina recommended this excellent psychological thriller to me - and in doing so, introduced me to Barbara Vine, of whom I’ve been a fan ever since. It’s the story of a woman writer who begins translating her great-grandmother’s diary from Danish, thereby uncovering a crime which has been undetected for almost ninety years. There is a tremendously sinister atmosphere, and Vine is particularly artful in conveying to the reader the narrator’s fear, and managing to make the events she is reading about come alive - at one remove. - review by Dan Fenton |
