Like Madeline pbk £5.99, Katie Morag is a young girl of independent spirit, also with red hair. But she is Scottish, not French; she lives on one of the Western Isles. The stories recount her adventures with her brother Liam, her Granny Mainland (who wears dresses up in high heels and earrings, and doesn’t like to get her hands dirty) and her Granny Island (who lives in a tip and likes it that way, and gets things done), and various other regular characters. Splendidly illustrated, these books have quickly become firm favourites.  Age 2-5 - review by Johnny de Falbe
