Penelope FitzgeraldProfileAnybody not familiar with the work of this distinguished author has a treat in store. She started writing fiction late in life and has now produced several short novels which could not possibly be by anybody else. Fitzgerald writes with extreme economy and precision. But though austere, her writing is never dry: on the contrary, she is invariably entertaining. She won the Booker Prize with Offshore, a novel set partly on a houseboat in Chelsea, and she has been shortlisted three more times. Publications
