Our Publications
In 1995, through the Cuckoo Press, the shop published a short story by
Johnny
de Falbe in paperback. The success of The Foible
Of Aristide Apple and
of Seán's Phenolphthalein the following
year established a new Sandoe's tradition. Every year, in the run-up to
Christmas, we publish a short work, each beautifully presented in a slim
paperback volume designed by Fenella Willis (also known as Nell, Johnny's wife).
Depending on the staff to come up with an original short story once a year is
one thing, but we're lucky enough to count a number of writers among our
customers - and bold enough to ask them to help us out. In the past few
years we have had contributions from William Boyd, Dame Muriel
Spark, and Javier Marias, among
others. The important
thing is for the books to come from someone who has a close association with the
shop, whether a member of staff or a customer. In 2004, we were delighted
to publish by
our very own Ulric, and
Paul's collection of poems
The Goose Who Ate
All The Maltesers is now available.
